Australia’s Changing Workforce

Historically, a large proportion of Australians worked as farmers and traders, forming the foundation of the national economy. Agriculture and small-scale trade were dominant sectors for many decades. In recent years, however, Australia has experienced significant economic restructuring. Employment in the service sector has grown rapidly, while the percentage of workers in agriculture has steadily declined. Manufacturing and production industries have remained stable but have not grown as quickly as services. This shift reflects broader changes in global trade and domestic economic priorities.
